Volvo Penta Saildrive SD 130-150 zinc anode

The zinc anode protects the iron and other metal parts of the boat against corrosion. The anode is installed below the waterline on the objects that you want to protect. Corrosion occurs so-called electrochemically. When different metals are connected to each other, they act like an electric battery. The metals act as the terminals of the battery and the salt water connects these terminals. In such a combination, the baser metal always corrodes. Zinc is a baser metal in relation to iron, stainless steel, copper, brass, etc. Zinc anodes should be checked every time they are lifted and replaced immediately if they are worn.

The zinc anode is installed longitudinally in connection with the metal parts to be protected. The zinc anode must not be painted with boat primer. The shaft anode is attached to the shaft, as close as possible to the shaft support.
